Blackwood Cardigan by Helens Closet

To say i’m in love with this pattern is an understatement! A beginner cardigan, designed to be left open and great for layering.  The sleeves are extra long which doesn’t bother me, I think it makes it more cosy.

I used a gorgeously soft red ponte roma fabric from Cheryl at Stitchy Bee, if you haven’t looked at Cheryl’s website you are missing out.  Cheryl has lovely fabrics with free postage that come beautifully wrapped with a handwritten note. Cheryl also has a great YouTube channel.

There are two cardigan versions to choose from, a hip length and a longer length. I chose the longer length as I like longer cardigans to cover my backside! The sleeves have a cuff and there is a band on the hem and neck.  The pattern has the option of adding two large patch pockets which I left off of this one as I just wanted to finish it and wear it!  I will definitely ad them to my next ones

The cardigan construction is easy and sews up in no time.  Helens instructions are easy to follow. I used my overlocker to finish the seams and topstitched using my sewing machine as it was, you could use a twin needle for a more decorative finish.

The blackwood is warm to wear over a multitude of tops and dresses, a definite staple in my wardrobe!
