Cleo Dungaree Dress by Tilly and the Buttons

I love the look of the Cleo pinafore and I did have reservations as to whether this would suit my shape (pear) and my age! But I thought ‘what the hell, I will wear whatever I like and whatever makes me feel good’…

I went for the classic denim to err on the side of caution but I really would love a mustard needlecord version (next one!).  I can’t remember where I bought the fabric as it had been in my stash for a while.  It has a good amount of stretch and was lovely to work with.

I had a lot of fun sewing this dress, everyone knows how good Tilly and the Buttons instructions are and it was a breeze to sew.  My cleo started off being the longer version, however it turned out that the shorter length was more flattering.  I left off the small pockets and just put one on the centre front, I topstitched in matching thread as I didn’t fancy unpicking it all if it went wrong! The top stitching turned out fine and was very straight – topstitching win for me! I searched on eBay for some antique looking dungaree clips and found some in the correct size, I like that the straps fit right across the width of the clip.

I love my Cleo paired with a stripey top, tights and boots and I do feel like my inner child makes an appearance every time I wear it.  I’m still not sure its the most flattering garment on me but I don’t care, I feel good when I wear it and that is enough for me…..
