I have seen a lot of gorgeous Helens Closet Winslow Culottes all over Instagram, I fell in love with Tasiapona’s woollen pair! I had to make some of my own, I desperately wanted to copy Tasiapona’s woollen pair but with a more stable fabric they do not drape as much and with my thighs extra bulk is not something I am in need of! For this reason I also left out the pockets.
I bought some dark khaki rayon challis from Minerva Crafts, which turned out to be more brown in colour than green when the fabric arrived. It is super soft and drapey but lovely to work with. My three girls Evie (9) and twins Scarlett and Sophie (7) said when they saw the culottes “oooh mummy you look like you are wearing our school skirt”! Not really the look I was going for, haha..
The construction was really easy, the only time I had to concentrate was attaching the waistband as you have to ease it in a bit and use a fair few pins. The culottes have two box pleats at the front and the same on the back with an invisible zip at the side. I have finished them (apart from the hem!) and I do like the style but I am not sure I will wear these particular ones. An overgrown catholic schoolgirl is not my ideal style. Oh well, I will just have to make another pair or three!
In a few hours you can have a really stylish pair of culottes in a choice of three lengths, Helen also gives you some styling tips for the different seasons and some great hack ideas!
I definitely recommend this pattern, you won’t regret it.
